Mid-Town Athletic Club

Singles Flex League Rules

Box Format

Format: Play one match against each of the other three players in your box before the end of the month. The player with the highest point total of each box will move up a level while the player with the lowest point total moves down. Players joining/leaving the league will affect this movement.

All matches will consist of set match play with no-ad scoring (unless both players agree before the match to play regular scoring). Any set reaching 6-all will be decided by a 12 pt. tie-break game. If you split sets it will be decided by the new match super tie-break game (which is a regular tie-break game except you play up to ten (10) points instead of seven.) When the buzzer sounds, the match is over and the total number of games will be counted. Any games in progress will not be counted.

Balls: Please pick up a can of balls and the score card at the front desk before play and return with your filled out score card after your match.

Scoring: Points are awarded according to the following system:

  1. 1 pt. for playing a match
  2. 1 point for each set won per match. (The match super tie-break game will count as one set.)
  3. 1 point for winning a match (If match is unfinished, 1 point for player who wins the most games)

For examples of how the score will be calculated, look at the Flex League Scoring System below.

Reporting Scores: The winner of the match is responsible for entering the scores online. Go to submit Box Scores and enter your scores. Please continue to fill out the league scorecard and return it with the tennis balls, to the front desk. The league coordinator will post the match scores on the scoreboard opposite the pros office and on the web site. Scores must be submitted before 8:00 PM of the last day of the month! No points awarded for defaults.

Scheduling: You may schedule your matches up to nine days in advance, tell the front desk you are scheduling for flex league. Present your flex league coupon to the front desk before you play to avoid being charged for court time. If you book a court and no show you will be charged for the court time.

Rules and tardiness: All USTA rules governing play are in effect. Warm-up time should be limited to ten minutes. If a match begins after that time because one player arrives late, the late player will concede the following games at the onset of the match: 0-10 min = loss of the spin, 10-15 min = loss of spin and 2 games, 15-20 min = loss of spin and 3 games. If a player arrives more than 20 min. late, the player will be considered a no show and concedes the match.

Flex League Scoring System:

Player will receive 1 point for playing a match.

Player will receive 1 point for each set won (super tie-break game counts as a set).

Player will receive 1 point for winning the match. If the match is unfinished, the player who wins the most games will receive 1 point.

Example: Player A defeats Player B 6-0, 6-0

Player A receives 1 pt for play + 1 point for win + 2 points for each set = 4 pts

Player B receives 1 pt for play = 1 pt

Score 4-1

Example: Player A defeats Player B 4-6, 6-2, (10-7 in super tie-break game)

Player A receives 1 pt for play + 1 point for win + 1 pt for second set and 1 pt for super tie-break = 4pts

Player B receives 1 pt for play + 1 pt for first set win = 2 pts

Score 4-2

Example: Player A defeats Player B 4-6, 6-2 (super tie-break game not played)

In the event the match is not finished, the player with the most games won will receive a point. Player A wins 10 games to 8

Player A receives 1 pt for play + 1 pt for second set and 1 pt for most games won = 3 pts

Player B receives 1 pt for play + 1 pt for first set win = 2 pts

Score 3-2

Example: Player A ties Player B 4-6, 5-2 - unfinished match.

In the event the match is not finished, the player with the most games won will receive a point. Player A wins 9 games to 8

Player A receives 1 pt for play + 1 pt for most games won = 2 pts

Player B receives 1 pt for play + 1 pt for first set win = 2 pts

Score 2-2

Example: Player A and player B - do not finish match 4-6, 3-3

In the event the match is not finished, the player with the most games won will receive a point. Player B wins 9 games to 7

Player A receives 1 pt for play = 1 pt

Player B receives 1 pt for play + 1 pt for first set win +1 point for most games won = 3 pts

Score 3-1

So the possible scores are: 4-2; 4-1; 3-2; 3-1 and 2-2.

These scores will be entered into the box matrix. The total score for the box will be tabulated to the left of the matrix and that will determine if a player moves up, down or stays.

We look forward to your participation.
